5 Weeks – 3 Weeks

Five Weeks Before Moving Day

Fill out a change of address form at the post office. You can also do this online at www.usps.gov.

Send out an email or card to friends and neighbors notifying them of your new address.

Contact utility companies in both your old and new home, and make arrangements for disconnection and connection.

Make arrangements with medical, automobile and homeowners’ insurance companies to transfer coverage.

Make arrangements for storage if you will need to store items during the move.

Four Weeks Before Moving Day

Cancel or transfer memberships to organizations or clubs that you belong to, like the gym or beach club.

Decide who will pack: you or the movers. Be aware that even if you select Gold coverage for your full-service move, items that you pack by
yourself will revert to MoveInsure’s Silver coverage.

Start packing. Start with rooms and items that you won’t need until after the move.

Notify creditors of your move.

Three Weeks Before Moving Day

Purchase moving insurance from MoveInsure to ensure peace of mind during the move.

Make sure your pet’s vaccinations are up to date, and that you have any necessary certificates and documents for transporting your pet.

Hold a garage sale to sell unwanted items. Donate what’s left to charity.

Confirm your travel arrangements (hotel reservations, airline tickets).

Contact your bank and arrange to transfer funds and/or close accounts.

Confirm the moving date with your mover, and inform them of any changes to your shipment that might influence the cost or timing of your move.

Start saying goodbye. Visit your family’s favorite places one last time. Host a party for friends and neighbors. Arrange parties for the kids.
