2 Weeks – 1 Week
Two Weeks Before Moving Day
Return all library books and other borrowed items.
Collect items that your friends or neighbors have borrowed from you.
Pick up dry cleaning and items that are at repair or storage locations – like shoes and furs.
Plan menus for the next two weeks which finish up whatever food is left in your pantry and refrigerator.
If you are not taking your plants with you, give them away to a neighbor or a nursing home.
Have your car cleaned and serviced in preparation for the move. Confirm your car transport arrangements.
Give away or safely dispose of hazardous items that cannot be transported.
Drain gasoline from appliances like lawn mowers and power tools so that they can be moved.
Disconnect the propane tank from gas grill and discard the tank.
One Week Before Moving Day
Confirm the form of payment that your mover expects, and make sure that you have it available (cash, certified check, etc.).
Fill prescriptions that you will need during the move. Transfer your prescriptions to a pharmacy in your new town.
Back up all computer files on disks. Disconnect computer cables.
Cancel your newspaper delivery, and other items that you have delivered regularly to your home.
Empty your safety deposit box.
Clean out your locker at the gym and school.
