1 Week – Moving Day

A Few Days Before Moving Day

Arrange for a professional to disconnect your major appliances and prepare them for the move. Empty and defrost the refrigerator and freezer.

Have each family member prepare their “Carry Me” box or suitcase of essentials that they will be carrying with them during the move. Make sure your important documents are with you as well.

Have the movers come to pack whichever belongings you arranged to have them pack.

Confirm the arrival time of the moving vehicle with your mover, and discuss any last-minute arrangements.

Inform your neighbors who may be inconvenienced by the moving truck.

Moving Day

Be available to answer any questions the movers might have.

Keep separate items that you will be carrying with you so that they don’t get loaded on the moving truck.

Carefully check over the mover’s inventory list and condition notations. Read over the Bill of Lading and any paperwork very carefully before signing.

Note meter readings in your home before you leave.

Exchange contact information with the mover, so that you are able to reach each other during the move.

Check all rooms and closets one more time before leaving.

Lock up your home. Hand over the keys to whomever you arranged to give them. Leave your new address just in case.
